Introduction To No Test Required For Obtaining Driving Licence

As the ways to obtain a driving license get updated, it brings huge relief for people, especially youngsters. In the past few years, it was becoming really difficult to obtain a license for driving as the driving test was very hard to crack. The new regulations updated by the government will most likely be beneficial for the people who have been waiting so long to get their driving licenses.

What are the new rules and regulations?

It has been notified that individuals no longer have to clear the driving test at the RTO, instead, this authority has been passed to private institutions. These institutions are required to train people and then issue the driving license. People who wish to get the certificates need to enrolled thenselves in the training centres, attain training, pass the test at the centra and then submit their certificates to the RTO to attaing the driving licence.

Duration of training

Vehicle Theoretical Practical
Light vehicle 8 hours 21 hours
Heavy motor vehicle 8 hours 31 hours
  1. Light vehicle training- This training should be completed within 4 weeks. A total of 29 hours is required, comprising 8 hours of theoretical training and 21 hours of practical training.
  2. Heavy motor vehicle training- This training should be completed withing 6 weeks. A totalnumber of 39 hours is must, comprising 8 hours of theoretical training and 31 hours of practical training.

Fee structure
The fee structure for different types of driving licences is as follows:

  • Learner licence: Rs 200
  • Learner licence renewal: Rs 200
  • International licence: Rs 1000
  • Permanent licence: Rs 200

Where to apply?

To apply for licence visit the website https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/ and click on apply driving licence option. Choose online/offline option and submit the required documents. Following receipt of the certificate, candidates can apply for a driving license, which the RTO willvissue based only on the training certificate and without the need for a test. There will be no physical test at RTO.

Rules for priving driving licence centres

  • It should have minimum of 1 acre land available for training people for 2 wheelers and the requirement of land increses to 2 acres for training people for 4 wheelers vehicles.
  • The trainer should have atleast the high school diploma and minimum 5 years of training experience.
  • The training centre must have access to training facility.
  • The training centre centre are required to renew its centre every year in order to continue operating.

Why these changes have been made?

The government aims to promote private centers. After the implementation of the new rules, all government-run driving schools will be shut down, and only private training schools will be functional. The requirements to obtain a new driver’s license will be the same in all of India’s states. It will be applicable from July 1, 2024.
